'The Bible' on History Channel: Who is the Actor Who Plays John the Baptist?

In episode 3 of The Bible on History Channel last night featured the arrival of Jesus and his interaction with John the Baptist, played by Leeds native Daniel Percival. In the iconic scene, John was busy baptizing believers in the Jordan River and stops dead in his tracks when he sees Jesus, instantly recognizing him as the son of God.

"There is one to come, greater than me, who will baptize with fire. I am just a voice in the wilderness preparing the way for the Lord."

Jesus tells John to baptize him. It's a powerful moment, enhanced with slow motion, when John puts Jesus under the water. The scene was one of the representations of the Holy Spirit.

When you think about Jesus asking John to baptize him instead of the other way around it demonstrates his great humility. He understands in order to deliver God's message, he'll have to interact with others in the community. Sometimes somebody can bless you in a way that you can't necessarily do yourself. Even Jesus, Son of God, he still needs somebody to help him out.

Played by U.K. television/theater actor Daniel Percival, John the Baptist' character was humble and compelling. The Van Wilder 2 and Exodus actor delivered a great performance during the baptism scene but drew some flak for his dreadlocks.

Similar to controversy surrounding Samson and the wise man's "blackness," it's certainly plausible that John would have dreadlocks. Why someone would be offended by any of the 3 portrayals is beyond me. Now the Satan-Obama hybrid...that's another story.
