Skillet is currently working on their 9th studio album, "Rise" which is due for a May 2013 release. They originally planned a late 2012 release but after becoming headliners for Winter Jam 2012, they didn't have the time.

They finished the tour and started recording "Rise" with producer Howard Benson. Lead vocalist, John Cooper describes the recording process for "Rise" as a "roller coaster ride." He told Contemporary Christian Magazine, the album, "is new territory for Skillet. We have aggressive tracks, artsy and music tracks. Guitars are dirty and edgier, with absolute shredding solos by Seth." (CCM Magazine).
