The Lads, a trio originally hailing from New Zealand, place an innovative spin on music for pre-teens and families with the September 1 launch of their self-titled debut CD. Releasing on the Pure Blue Kids label, distributed by Word Distribution, the Lads' high-energy pop/rock focuses on the adventure of following Christ.
“For us it really is all about putting people in contact with their Creator,” said Mark Millard, the Lads lead singer. “Our ultimate passion is seeing God move powerfully in kids’ lives, and their parents’ lives too—to see Him bring Life in all its fullness. This desire affects everything we do, from our live concerts to the music we write.”
The Lads features original selections including “International Mystery Man,” “You’re A Star,” “Cable Knit Sweater” and “Creator”—along with the band’s renditions of popular worship songs “Amazing Love” and “Step by Step.” Also included are the comedic interludes “Mrs. Millard” and “Dennis Driver.”

In addition to the debut recording, the Lads have developed a companion comic book series and retail consumers will receive the first installment free with purchase of the CD.
The Lads are comprised of Mark Millard, lead vocalist; Steve King, drums; and Bjorn Bennett, guitars. The band has performed countless concerts across their native country and Australia since their formation in 1999 and has been recognized with two prestigious Gospel Album of the Year honors from the New Zealand Music Awards. In 2005 the trio relocated to the US, and the next year focused their ministry on creating music and other resources to communicate biblical Truth to tweens and families. This fall and winter the Lads will be featured at SuperStart, a pre-teen conference hosted by Christ in Youth held in 10 markets across the country.
