Tenth Avenue North
Already making waves as established radio hit makers and a road worn touring force, the 2010 Song of The Year Dove Award winning modern pop band Tenth Avenue North can add two more charts to which it has reached the summit, this time thanks to the single, “You Are More.”
The track, the second single off the band’s sophomore full-length release The Light Meets The Dark, this week gives Tenth Avenue North its first No. 1 single on both the National Audience and AC Monitored charts, proving the band’s durability and interest nationally at radio.
As the single tops charts this week, the song’s powerful message is what is connecting with listeners. Lead singer, Mike Donehey explains, “This song might have the most important message of the whole album. It says: ‘This is not about what you’ve done or what’s been done to you and it’s not about where you’ve been but where you’re brokenness brings you.’ This is not about what you feel. In a world where our validation and our acceptance is based upon what we do, how well we perform, what we feel, I feel like that is just a really special statement to sort of negate all those false ideas that are going around.”

The radio accolades continue a very busy spring for the band, as it picked up four nominations for the 42nd Annual Gospel Music Association Dove Awards last month. Tenth Avenue North garnered up nominations in the general categories Song of the Year (for lead vocalist/songwriter Mike Donehey’s work on “Hold My Heart” from Over And Underneath) and Group of the Year, as well as in the Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year (for The Light Meets The Dark) and Christmas Album (as part of The Essential Christmas Collection) categories.
Audiences have also been applauding “You Are More” in the live setting as they catch Tenth Avenue North on tour with Third Day, on its “Make Your Move” tour. Planned for summer 2011, Tenth Avenue North has confirmed 20 major Christian music festivals from coast to coast including Creation Festival, Spirit West Coast, Lifeflight Fest, and Soul Fest.
