snl320.jpg (Photo: SNL via The Christian Post) Saturday Night Live does a parody of Denver Broncos' Tim Tebow and his Christian faith.

Openly Christian Tim Tebow has become the subject of SNL’s latest controversial skit. The skit involving an overly zealous Tebow and slightly annoyed Jesus has sparked mixed reactions in the Christian community.

The “SNL” skit poked fun at the undertone that has risen from backlash due to Tebow’s religious devotion. The Bronco’s starting quarterback has become a Christian fan favorite but not all are appeased by his religiosity and have become annoyed.

Reactions to the skit have ranged from outrage to defense of it.

Televangelist Pat Robertson has been among the most quoted expressing his disapproval over the skit calling it “anti-Christian bigotry” and “disgusting.”

Also sounding off disapprovingly was USA Today’s political commentator Bob Beckel referring to the skit as “despicable” on Fox News, finding nothing amusing about the “SNL” performance.

Robertson and Beckel echo the sentiments of many unamused and offended Christians while others took the skit as great comedy and are perplexed about the controversy.

Christian writer for the Examiner Paula Mooney doesn’t understand why some Christians were angered.

“As a Christian, I found the ‘Saturday Night Live’ skit pretty freaking funny, and I still chuckle when the character playing Christ crossed his legs to reveal gym socks” she wrote.

Other than Voicing discomfort over the skit’s Mormonism being true line coming from the character of Jesus and his “if I’m the Son of God” line, Mooney found the response to the skit to be most “light-hearted” despite the anger.

“I do have a sense of humor, but I do pray and ask God and Jesus what they think of the parody. Believe me, the Lord has a way of making us know when we’ve gone too far...”

Attracting millions of Youtube hits, one self-proclaimed Christian Youtuber posted the video with a disclaimer hoping to pacify those who were offended.

“...I myself am a Christian Catholic...They are not making fun of Jesus! This is a Tim Tebow caricature, (sic) they’re making fun of Tebow...”
