Beloved Christian rock band Relient K is slated to tour later this year with artists Good Charlotte and Simple Plan. Recently having released "Be My Escape," to mainstream radio, so far the song has received positive responses and warm reception from concert promoters and radio programmers.
Relient K's role model is band Switchfoot, who've found excessive success in both Christian and mainstream markets.
"Yeah, we've always tried to," Matt Thiessen (singer/guitarist for Relient K) states in an interview when asked if they want to emulate the path of Switchfoot. "Even when we were selling more records than they were a couple years ago, we were still trying to follow in their footsteps."
"And they became mentors to us," Thiessen continues. "We've admired that band. I saw (Switchfoot lead singer) Jon (Foreman) the other day, and have a lot of admiration for them. In the same respect, we are different bands. They have pop appeal and are more suitable for radio."
