Third Day's Mac Powell and speaker/author David Nasser joined together in 2007 to get the ball rolling on this unique style of albums with, 'Glory Revealed.' That release, like this one, was filled with songs that are taken directly from scripture. The first 'Glory Revealed,' release won two Dove Awards, and produced the number-1 song, "By His Wounds."
When asked about the songs being scripture based Mac Powell had this to say, "It's God's word and people are drawn to that," he smiled. "They are drawn to wanting to learn God's word. They hear a song a few times and have it in their heart and in their mind. All of our children have listened to the record and love it. They have memorized scripture and we've memorized scripture. It's so great to see how just hearing a handful of songs a few times can really put the word of God in your heart and in your mind."
Powell has pulled together some of his favorite singers, songwriters, musicians and friends to make this release on which he both performs and wears the producer's hat.
The first, 'Glory Revealed,' was widely praised and they hope to be able to capture some of that magic on, 'Glory Revealed II.' Like with the first one you'll find a collection of songs that are performed by an all star cast of the hottest, and most well-known Christian artist that are around today. You'll find established artist like, Amy Grant, Geoff Moore, and Mac Powell, along with newcomers like, Mike Donehey (Tenth Avenue North), and Bear Rinehart (NeedToBreathe).
Things get started off on the right foot with, "How Great," an up-tempo roots rock song, with an Americana vibe thanks to the liberal use of fiddle playing that's found on it. The vocals are handled by, Mac Powell (Third Day), Shane Everett (Shane & Shane), Jonathan Shelton, and Brian Littrell. The subject of the song centers around God's amazing grace.
Some of the other all-stars who perform on this release, that I haven’t already mentioned include; Trevor Morgan, Jason Crabb, Matt Maher, Ed Cash, Natalie Grant, Laura Story, Brandon Heath, Aaron Shust, Shawn Lewis (Hyper Static Union), Sara Evans, Bethany Olds, Shane & Shane, Shawn Lewis, Bethany Dillon and Kari Jobe.
While this release is filled with a very gifted group of singers, it's the song's lyrics that are able to hold their own, driving the songs, avoiding getting lost in the mix.
Casting Crowns' Mark Hall, who appears on both this release the original 'Glory Revealed,' says that, "What's great about the 'Glory Revealed' record is that the songs originate with scripture. There's something amazing about singing God's word back to Him in worship."
Even though the songs are performed by various artists, they still have a cohesion that makes them flow near seamlessly from one to another. The musical style found on the 12 songs that make up, 'Glory Revealed II,' fall into a mixture that includes more earthy styles of music like, roots rock, Americana, country and bluegrass, complete with fiddle, mandolin, and even some banjo music.
If you're looking for some really good roots based music, that's filled with inspired lyrics, then 'Glory Revealed II' was made just for you.
