American Idol top ten finalist Colton Dixon returned to Murfreesboro Tennessee and spent time with his hometown fans on Saturday morning in a packed gym. While on stage addressing his fans, Dixon received a big surprise when the Murfreesboro Mayor Tommy Bragg presented Dixon with a certificate declaring May 26 a day to honor Colton Dixon.
"It's crazy! That's going to be something I'll be able to show my grandkids one day," Dixon expressed.
More surprises included several video messages from family, friends and celebrities including Chris Daughtry. There was also a special performance by from Superchick's Tricia and Melissa Brock.
In addition to the surprises that were planned for Dixon's homecoming, there were the unexpected fans who touched the heart Dixon by traveling from other states including Texas, Arkansas and Okalahoma to attend the homecoming.
A mother and her young daughter who traveled from Texas said, "We wanted to let him know that we support him and that we are just big fans."
In the two-hour event, Dixon also had the chance to perform together with his sister Schyler for his fans. After the event, there was a scheduled meet and greet for 1 hour, however Dixon stayed for much longer to thank the fans for their support.
Dixon tweeted, "Met fans and took pics for 6 hours today. Phew! So nice to meet you guys! Gonna sleep well tonight!;-)"
