Although the Christian music industry is filled with gifted artists, there are only a few who catch your ear from note one. Jessica Ruiz, whose voice brings to mind artists like Rachael Lampa and Jaci Velasquez, is one of those artists. With crystal clear vocals and a spiritual conviction that shines through her music, Ruiz has been blessed to sing in front of some of today's finest artists including Whitney Houston and CeCe Winans and to open up for Tye Tribbett. The Worship Leader of West 58th Street Church of God in Cleveland, OH, is dropping her brand new single entitled, "Ignited". The contagious single, about being set on fire with an unquenchable desire for God, is a hyperactive cut set to drop on Tuesday, May 3rd.
Jessica is thrilled about the upcoming release. "Even when I say the name of the project, Ignited, something on the inside rises up in me," she explains. "This CD is for Christians who may be new to the faith as well as those who have been Christians for a while, but have lost their fire for God. My hope is that through these songs, the fire of God is ignited within them. The CD itself is filled with fire."
Jessica, a vocalist who can easily flow between Contemporary Christian and Gospel music, has sung at a number of high profile events. She's netted her share of accolades for her singing including First Place at the Millennium Stage Talent Show and impressive placements at the Applause International CCM Rising Star Contest and the AMTC/Millie Lewis Singing Competition. She also received remarkable reviews of her debut project called Condition of the Heart and the CD's title tune.
Jessica Ruiz, a Cleveland native, hails from a long line of ministers - each in spoken word or music - so it's not surprising that her path would include ministry as well. Her mother recalls that even as an infant in the crib, Jessica would be moved to tears by a ballad or to fits of joy by an upbeat song. "I remember my mother placing me in front of the television while I looked at Disney movies listening to the music," recalls Jessica. "I would mimic the characters' voices and be transported to a different place." She believes that even then she was developing her vocal and musical skills. At the age of 11, she felt a clear calling to minister through music and one year later, she began penning songs. Her music career took off from there.
The songstress, who has appeared on the Trinity Broadcast Network's "Praise The Lord" program, wants her passion for God to spread like wildfire. "My goal is that through my music, people fall in love with God. I want Him to be the first thing they think of when waking up in the morning and the last thing they think of before they go to sleep at night," says Jessica. The new single, "Ignited", will be available for purchase on iTunes and through Jessica's website,
