With more than fifty-six thousand Facebook fans, its safe to say that many people love Christian singer and song writer Jimmy Needham. A successful artist, Needham travels the world and ministers to thousands, but this doesn’t come without a cost. Just ask his wife.

Wife of four years, Kelly Needham knows first hand the sacrifice behind her husband’s success. With her husband on the road two to five days a week, it is often reminiscent of her single days having to handle things at home, which includes caring for their daughter, on her own.

In a recent Wordpress blog, Jimmy Needham’s wife Kelly, shared openly about this

“I live as a single mom for the most part. I take care of our house, our meals, our shopping, our daughter, and our dog by myself. I wake up alone and go to bed alone and often go to church alone.”

Although this aspect of her life may be difficult, she is “grateful” for it.

Having this alone time, she is reminded that Jesus is enough for her. It helps her to depend on God and offers a means of removing the dependance she has placed on her husband.

Staying at home to raise their daughter and working full time at their home church doesn’t allow Kelly to travel the world with Jimmy, but this was not always the case.

Meeting back in 2005 at Texas A&M University, Kelly a finance major and Jimmy a then aspiring history teacher, met and married within two years. With the release of Jimmy’s debut Inpop album, Kelly and Jimmy began to travel the world together as she served as Jimmy’s road manager, merchandising manager, and full-time violinist.

With a shift in their travel dynamic and having to deal with the difficulties of being alone, “not lonely”, Kelly still feels “incredibly grateful” for the life that she is living and pleased that it pushes her to “need God more.”

“It is better to have a challenging life that pushes me closer to Christ, than a comfortable one that allows me to become complacent in my walk with Him. So I am incredibly grateful.”

In addition, Jimmy being on the road helps to keep their marriage exciting as she finds it delightful to always look forward to welcoming him home and finding new ways to do so.

Among openly sharing about the difficulties that accompany being an artist’s wife, she also gave advice to fans regarding what not to say to an artist’s wife which included “Your husband is so cute/hot/attractive” which immediately puts her “on the defense” as his wife.

Along with what not to say, she also gave advice regarding things that artists’ wives appreciate which included “tell me a little bit about you” which helps them feel appreciated for who they are and not just for who they are married to.
