The band name Canopy Red may be still making its way through the Christian rock ranks, but the foursome's made several intentions very clear. Bottom line, these are four fresh-faced but remarkably cohesive players from Tallahassee, FL whose goal is to impact this generation with the Gospel, coupled with undeniable musicality that brings to mind bands like the Fray, Sanctus Real, Relient K, The Afters and other like-minded modern rock innovators. Signed to Creative Soul Records, its self-titled EP is loaded with just as much variety as it is introspection. "Like our name says, we want to show more people, both saved and unsaved, what it means to live under the shelter of Christ's blood."
JOSHUA SCHMIDT
Josh got saved with his dad when he was 6 years old. He always has been fascinated by music and caught onto it very easily. He played piano when he was 7 years old. When he was 13 he started playing guitar and really felt led by God to use music since then. When he was 14 he felt God calling him into some kind of ministry. Josh likes to stand out and be different. On some of the missions trips he has been on, he learned to recognize those who were in need of Jesus' love. As a result he has started mentoring younger friends in their Christian walk. Songs like "Sorry" and "Falling Apart" help him to use music to help others know and serve Christ.
FORREST KRAZIT
Forrest accepted Christ at a young age and was raised in a Christian home and in church. He began getting interested in music at the age of twelve when he picked up a guitar for the first time. A few years after he started to play, Forrest joined the church's youth praise band. The praise band was a great place to hone his musical skills and he realized how fulfilling it was to serve Jesus through music. After a little over a year of playing guitar in the praise band, he began to feel God lead him to sing as well as play music. Trusting in Him, Forrest had the courage to sing and even write his first song. Getting together with the others in Canopy Red was the fall out of trusting God in leading Forrest to write more songs and sing in front of groups other than the youth group. He soon picked up on playing piano and as his relationship with Jesus gets stronger, his musical talents have blossomed.
NICHOLAS CLEARY
Nick started his music interests in piano. His older brother influenced and encouraged him in his music. He learned to play the piano, guitar, bass, and sing. He wanted to be different from a typical guitar or bass player. Playing in the youth praise band helped him get a better understanding of music and how he could reach people through music. Nick was influenced in his understanding of the need for salvation and at a young age accepted Jesus as his savior. He finds it very hard to have a relationship with Jesus and not get caught up in the world--and this led to Nick helping to write songs like "True".
RYAN HARVELL
Ryan started getting interested in music when he was in middle school. He wanted to be able to play the music he was hearing on the radio. He first tried piano, but fell in love with the drums soon thereafter, and has been playing them ever since. Ryan has been playing in his school and youth praise band. He felt like he was getting closer to God by praising him with music and he wanted to continue praising Him through Canopy Red's music. Songs like "All Around Me" allowed Ryan to show others that God's love is always there and will never abandon them. He came to his own understanding of the need for that love when he gave his heart to Jesus at the age of 10. |
